I am not a professional cyclist, nor an elite rider; I’m an amateur rider, a wife and a mother of three, who is motivated through my own personal trials and tribulations to chase my passion and to give back to the community. This August, I will be embarking on my toughest challenge yet. To ride in the Audax Paris – Brest – Paris 2019. This is a once in 4-year event, and it took me 2 years to qualify after riding a total of more than 3000KM in Audax events in 2018 and 2019. This journey will take me 1200KM from the town of Rambouillet on the outskirts of Paris, to the seaside town of Brest on the east coast of France, and back to Rambouillet, for a total of 1200KM, over 4 days.
Name: Audax Randonneur Paris – Brest – Paris 2019
Dates: 18 – 22 August 2019
Cut Off Ride Time: 90 hours
It will be tough but it can be overcome. It will be painful physically, emotionally and mentally but in my mind this is nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients under the care of Hospis Malaysia. They are the true fighters.
All that is raised here will go directly to Hospis Malaysia, a charitable organisation that offers professional palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, AIDS, organ failure or progressive neurological conditions. Their clinical team makes home visits to assess patients and help with problems related to life-limiting illnesses, be they physical, psychological or social. Their care is provided free of charge. Hospis Malaysia is not affiliated with any political, religious, governmental, or private groups. They depend almost entirely on donations from the public and corporate sector to fund their services. These funds are managed by a Council who delegate more detailed administrative governance to a Finance Sub-Committee. Currently, their operating expenses run at approximately RM 4 million a year, covering staff remuneration, training and education of staff, the cost of medicine and medical supplies, medical equipment and general administration.
So please join me in helping this cause.
