Advances in medicines do not always ease the burden of suffering and may cause despair to patients and their families. Many still succumb to their illnesses despite the best of medical intentions. This workshop is especially relevant to healthcare professionals who often do not know how to deal with issues of grief and suffering and, may not know how to give hope when no cure is realistic or possible. Interventions which are medically futile are often the response.
This course is suitable for doctors, senior clinicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors and most importantly, those involved in making crucial decisions when the transitions from cure, to prolonging survival and palliation becomes the main objective of holistic patient-centered care.
The medium of instruction is English and a high level of interaction and expression is required. Two international speakers, Dr. Susan Marsden, a Palliative Care Consultant with a background in Radiation Oncology and Ms. Liese Groot-Alberts, a professional Grief Therapist from New Zealand will be facilitating this 3-day workshop.
