Headed by the Chairman, Council members act as trustees of the funds received from the public and the corporate sector. Policies and strategies for Hospis Malaysia are decided by the Council members, who also hold as their responsibility the ensuring that proper accounting records are maintained and timely financial information is produced. The Council meets regularly to discuss relevant issues.

THE COUNCIL MEMBERS

Name: BGen (Rtd) Dato' Richard Robless, CHAIRMAN
Summary: Dato' Robless served the Royal Malaysian Air Force for 30 years before taking early retirement to form and run a government-owned company, Aerospace Technology Systems Corporations (ATSC), which he managed for five years before venturing into the private sector. He is presently the Executive Chairman of Rajawali Aerospace Sdn Bhd and Selbor Enterprise, Chairman of Yayasan Tan Sri Dominic Vendargon and Stella Maris Schools and sits on the boards of the De La Salle Foundation and Datum Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Name: Datin Kathleen Yeoh Wai Lin, VICE CHAIRMAN
Summary:

Datin Kathleen Yeoh is the Group Legal Adviser of YTL Corporation Berhad, a diversified conglomerate listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia. She holds a LL.B (Hons) Degree from the University of Birmingham and is a member of the English Bar and the Malaysia Bar. Prior to joining YTL, she was a partner in the law firm of Abdul Aziz, Ong & Co in Kuala Lumpur.

Datin Kathleen is the Chairperson of Alpha Malaysia, a non-denominational Christian organization. She also takes an active interest in education in Malaysia and sits on the Board of Governors of the Assunta Secondary School, a mission school founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and the Board of Trustees of the Benenden School Trust in the UK. She is married to Dato' Yeoh Seok Hong and has seven lovely children.


  Name: Dr Michael Adaikalasamy, SECRETARY
Summary:
Dr Michael Samy is a practicing obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. His particular area of interest in Gynaecological Oncology. He graduated from University of Malaya in 1976 and the United Kingdom for post graduate training. Dr. Michael was a lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University Kebangsaan Malaysia for 5 years before he left for private practice.

He has been active with the O&G society and is currently the President of the College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Academy of Medicine. Dr. Michael is also involved with Malaysian Physicians for Social Responsibility and currently serves as its treasurer. He is currently the Chairman of the Ethics committee at Gleneagles Hospital.

 

Name: Ms. Fairly Yap Swee Eng, TREASURER
Summary: Ms. Fairly Yap Swee Eng graduated from University of Manchester in Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Economics. She trained with KPMG in London for three years and is a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland. From 1981-1988, she was the Head of Ernst & Young Corporate Secretarial and Insolvency Services and two years after as Manager of Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Berhad Corporate Advisory. She retired in 1994 after two years as the Company Secretary of Park May Berhad.

Name: Mr. James Armand Menezes, COUNCIL MEMBER
Summary: Mr. James Armand Menezes joined the Council in 1996. He is a qualified accountant and served for 25 years with Ernst & Whinney (now known as Ernst & Young) and retired as a Senior Partner in 1990. He holds directorships and plays advisory roles in companies in Malaysia and Australia besides doing voluntary work in other organisations.

     

Name: Dr Ednin Hamzah, COUNCIL MEMBER
Summary: Dr. Ednin Hamzah joined the Council in 1997. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1986. He was trained in General Medicine and General Practice and worked as a general practitioner in Newcastle Upon Tyne until 1997, when he joined Hospis Malaysia. He is currently also on the Board of International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care, the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Association, the Malaysian Oncological Society and the Malaysian Society for the Study of Pain.

Name: Dr. Azlina Firzah Abdul Aziz, COUNCIL MEMBER
Summary: Dr. Azlina Firzah Abdul Aziz is currently based as a Resident Consultant Breast Surgeon in Pantai Medical Centre, Bangsar. She is also a visiting consultant at PrimaNora Medical Centre in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. Dr. Azlina holds a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Masters in Surgery, and due to her interest in the field of Breast Surgery, took up further training in Breast & Endocrine Surgery in Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Putrajaya Hospital. Apart from her medical career, she is also actively involved in promoting women’s health especially in areas related to breast cancer awareness. Also in line with her work and interest, she has been giving public talks & lectures on Breast Cancer since 1999.

Name: Ms. Ho Chee Kit, COUNCIL MEMBER
Summary: Ms. Ho Chee Kit is one of the founding partners of a law firm in Kuala Lumpur in which she is currently a consultant. She has been called to both the English Bar and Malaysian Bar and is experienced in corporate, banking, intellectual and industrial property laws and related matters. Ms. Ho currently serves as a legal advisor to a number of associations and sits on the board of a company  listed with Bursa Securities Malaysia as an independent director and she is also a council member of Yayasan De La Salle.
