PC 2 - Communication Skills: 10 – 11 April 2010
Effective Communication Skills is absolutely necessary in providing palliative care that is well planned and delivered through the collaborative efforts of many people including the patient, their care givers (family and friends) and service providers. In Palliative Care, imparting ‘bad’ news, dealing with issues of treatment, psychological ‘taboo’ topics, spiritual and existential concerns can be very difficult and must be managed appropriately. As a matter of fact, good communication is quintessential in developing an effective relationship with patients and their families.
This workshop deals with the mechanics of communication from the issues, techniques and practical sessions in the areas of care of patients with self-limiting illness.
